The New Tesla Roadster in Charlotte
California’s Tesla Motor Company has been getting a lot of hype as the car of the future. Why? Instead of low emmissions the new Roadster has “no” emmssions. It operates on a carbon frame with a battery system comparable to 700 cell phone batteries. The engine….only 150 lbs.
Don Yager and I go over to WBT studios weekly to do the Carolina Outdoor program, I often think about how the world’s focus on technology has changed.
Of course, hiking is still hiking; fishing is still fishing & adventure is still adventure. This hasn’t changed.
However, the technology that decides how heavy are the boots we wear, or what material our fly rod is made of, or the lack of restrictions in where we can travel for adventure (local to around the world, quickly) is evolving quickly.
Driving a car is still driving a car. But, an electric car that goes from 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds, has zero tail pipe emmissions & travels 245 miles before it needs a recharge; maybe the future of driving.
For only $120,000 you can find out.

John Wilson, of Fox News Rising, came to Jesse Brown’s Outdoors, Charlotte, NC for some early morning interviewing.
The subject was the Trail Run Challenge (this Saturday, August 21st) presented by Jesse Brown’s at the US National Whitewater Center.
Wilson interviewed race director, Ryan Gilliland, about the great event that is encouraging all the road runners in the Charlotte area to “hit the trails” of the Whitewater Center.
The Race is to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society that helps advocate for research & patient support.
Abbie from the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society & Linda, a blood cancer survivor (& runner) both shared their stories of what the cause is about.
Plus, Linda shared with Wilson (& the Fox News Rising viewers) her scary story of sickness, survival & revival as she is preparing to run in an upcoming 1/2 marathon.

He showed two examples of footwear to run in. Five Fingers, with the minimalistic approach or Salomon XT Wings for full lightweight support.

Father’s Day on WBT’s Carolina Outdoors
Charlotte, NC June 19,2010
Today during the taping of the Carolina Outdoors program that I co-host along with Don Yager the subject came up of how dad or granddad effected our interests in the outdoors.
We didn’t spend as much time on it as we could have but after I thought about it a bit longer I thought that it was worthy of putting on the Jesse Brown’s Blog.
Don grew up on a farm in Missouri. They had dairy cows, row crops, & a ton of work during his time growing up on the farm in the 1950’s & ’60s. However, they also had several coveys of quail on the farm.
If all the chores were done before Saturday during bird season (the Fall), Don’s dad would lead the boys, neighbors, invited guests & of course the dogs on a hunt around the property.
During this time, everyone had the opportunity to learn the manners & ettiquette expected during the hunt. They also learned the art of conservation. See Mr. Yager knew where all the coveys were. He also knew about how many birds were in each covey.
He’d only allow so much hunting around the farm & on those certain coveys. Therefore, there was always a healthy bird population on the farm.
Because of this, Don & his brother always got they’re chore’s done so they could go spend time more time with Dad.

Author wants to raise funds for CMS foundation
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – June 10, 2010 – Author and avid mountain climber Macon Dunnagan wants to raise funds for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Public Schools Foundation by climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa this summer.
Dunnagan, who has authored the book “Sons of Kilimanjaro,” is looking for 14 others to join him for the climb to be held Aug. 30 through Sept. 4. The cost for the Zara Tours climb is $1,400, plus airfare and lodging. In addition to paying for the trip, climbers would help raise funds for the foundation by getting sponsorships from organizations, businesses, families and friends. The climb will take place using the Umbwe route with four days to ascend and two days to descend the mountain.
“I have two children attending CMS schools so I have a vested interest in helping the district during these tough economic times,” Dunnagan said. “This climb will not only help raise funds for the district but it will be an amazing educational and cultural experience for those involved.”
Dunnagan will hold an informational session about the climb on Thursday, June 17, at Jesse Brown’s Outdoors (4732 Sharon Road) from 6 to 8 p.m. For more information, please contact Macon Dunnagan by e-mail at macondunnagan@hotmail.com or Tasnuva Zaman at tasnuva.zaman1@gmail.com.
Sisters Tour End With a Whoop!
We, at Jesse Brown’s, received this note from Peggy (CO),
“…these photos are of Windy doing her impersonation of a whooping crane being harrassed by 2 peregrine falcons. We think that this may be the start of a new career.” – Peggy
Nonetheless, thanks to Peggy & Windy for sharing photos and essays on their exploits. We think they are an inspiration for travellers & adventurists around the world.
They are now back home. Safely back from this trip but now begins the planning for the next……
As we say at Jesse Brown’s: The Adventure Continues….
