CHARLOTTE, N.C. – June 10, 2010 – Author and avid mountain climber Macon Dunnagan wants to raise funds for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Public Schools Foundation by climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa this summer.
Dunnagan, who has authored the book “Sons of Kilimanjaro,” is looking for 14 others to join him for the climb to be held Aug. 30 through Sept. 4. The cost for the Zara Tours climb is $1,400, plus airfare and lodging. In addition to paying for the trip, climbers would help raise funds for the foundation by getting sponsorships from organizations, businesses, families and friends. The climb will take place using the Umbwe route with four days to ascend and two days to descend the mountain.
“I have two children attending CMS schools so I have a vested interest in helping the district during these tough economic times,” Dunnagan said. “This climb will not only help raise funds for the district but it will be an amazing educational and cultural experience for those involved.”
Dunnagan will hold an informational session about the climb on Thursday, June 17, at Jesse Brown’s Outdoors (4732 Sharon Road) from 6 to 8 p.m. For more information, please contact Macon Dunnagan by e-mail at macondunnagan@hotmail.com or Tasnuva Zaman at tasnuva.zaman1@gmail.com.
