Retired Charlotte fireman, passionate fly fisherman, and author of the book Stream Safety & Fly Fishing, Gregg Murphy, joins the Carolina Outdoors this week! Learn more about safety while fly fishing, how to best prepare for an angling trip, and tips from “Murph”.
Murph will also be at Jesse Brown’s on October 9th from 6 – 7:30 p.m. Come hear more of his story and enjoy refreshments along with a book signing!
Murph’s Safety Tips (Part Two):
- Let others know where you’re going, when you’ll come back, and your plan before you go fly fishing. Preparation like this can save your life in the event of an emergency!
- Be aware of water conditions, thunderstorms, and releases of dam-controlled rivers while in the water.
- If the clarity of the water changes, debris starts coming downstream, or the water starts pushing harder, get out of the water.
- Go fishing with a friend when you can – they can help if something happens (the downside is that you may never hear the end of it!).
