Upcoming Outdoor Events & Updates in North Carolina: Spring 2024
This year’s outdoor programming in North Carolina looks a little different. With several exciting new additions, as well as some necessary adjustments following the impacts of the recent hurricane. With a focus on sustainability, conservation, and accessible outdoor experiences. The state offers a range of opportunities for residents and visitors to reconnect with nature.
Show Highlights:
Turkey Season: North Carolina’s turkey season officially kicks off on April 12th and continues through May 10th. Hunters are limited to one bird per day, and the state is actively working on efforts to boost the wild turkey population through sustainable hunting practices and conservation initiatives.
Urban Hiking: For those looking to enjoy the outdoors in a more accessible way, a new urban hike happens May 4th. The 4.2-mile hike begins at 1:00 PM near the Captain Jack statue. Offering an opportunity to experience nature without leaving the heart of the city.
Fly-Tying Class: A beginner-friendly fly-tying class at a special price of $25 per person. The class covers all the basics of fly tying, and tools will be provided, making it an ideal option for anyone interested in starting a new hobby or refining their skills.
Introduction to Fly Fishing: If you’ve ever wanted to dive into the world of fly fishing, don’t miss the “Introduction to Fly Fishing” event on May 14th and 17th. The first day will be dedicated to classroom learning, from 6:00-8:00 PM, where participants can get familiar with the techniques and equipment. Day 2 will give participants the chance to practice their new skills in the field with expert fly fishing guides.
Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens: Continuing its commitment to conservation, the Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens is enhancing its eco-conscious efforts, with a particular focus on wildlife protection and greenspace conservation. This initiative ties into the larger goals of preserving natural habitats across the state.
