What To Know:
- North Carolina Turkey Hunting Season: April 11 – May 9
- South Carolina Turkey Hunting Season: April 3 – May 3
- What’s the biggest mistake in turkey hunting? James says it’s overcalling. His advice? “If you think you’re calling too much, you probably are. If you don’t think you’re calling enough, you probably aren’t.”
- Hawks, owls, raccoons, and possums are predators of turkeys which impact the hunting season. Recent decline in the insect population has also caused a decline in turkeys, which eat insects in youth.
- Despite challenges for turkeys, this season has shown a good population of 2-year-old turkeys.
Turkey season is coming to a close, but there’s still time to get out there and put James’s advice into practice! Stop by Jesse Brown’s before you head out for gear, tips, and more.
