Podcast: Play in new window
Bush N Vine Farm, just outside of Charlotte in Filbert, South Carolina, has been growing local fruits and vegetables since 1979. Sam Hall joins the Carolina Outdoors to talk about their summer produce, from peaches and watermelon to okra and sweet corn, local farming, pick-your-own, the CSA program, and more.
About the Farm:
- Summer produce is in full swing at the farm – from peaches, cantaloupes, watermelons, and blackberries to bell peppers, okra, sweet corn, and tomatoes.
- Did you know that dry weather is actually good for fruit and makes it sweeter? It requires more watering for vegetables, however.
- Pick-Your-Own Blueberries are available now at the farm. The next crop available for Pick-Your-Own will be pumpkins in the fall.
- Learn how to pick the best watermelon – whether you’re at a farm or at the grocery store.
- The Bush N Vine offers CSA boxes, where they drop off boxes of fresh produce at locations around Charlotte weekly. See the list of locations and sign-ups for the next season on the website.
- Beyond the farm, there are convenient satellite locations with limited hours in Lake Wylie and Rock Hill.
Check out the Bush N Vine Farm website for more information on seasons, satellite stand locations, the CSA program, and more.
