What to Know:

  • Jesse Brown’s recently hosted a summer fly fishing camp for around 18 elementary- to middle-school aged kids. Hosted in partnership with Charlotte Country Day School, the camp was held at the school’s stock ponds in Weddington, N.C.
  • Connor’s favorite part about teaching kids fishing is getting to see them become comfortable with the sport. He enjoys teaching them the basics of fly fishing so they can enjoy fishing on their own.
  • Connor talks about trout and the conditions which favor smallmouth fishing. He notes the dryness of this summer’s weather and how it’s affected fishing.
  • Learn some of Connor’s safety tips:
    • Always let a loved one know where you’re going. Sharing your location via phone or AirTag can be helpful as well.
    • Stay hydrated, especially in the summer heat.
    • Wading staffs can be helpful to bring, especially on slippery rocks.
    • Stay aware of changing weather conditions and thunder & lightning.
