Summer Fishing in the Carolina Heat with Elijah Saint Blancard

Hot Summer Fishing in the Carolinas:

As summer progresses and temperatures rise across the Carolinas, fish are also feeling the heat. How is the sport of fishing affected by heat waves & weather change? Learn from Elijah Saint Blancard, lead fishing guide and head fly fishing instructor at Jesse Brown’s, to find out what the heat means for the trout, smallmouth bass, and largemouth bass of the Carolinas.

Segment Highlights:

  • Trout need cold water. Seek creeks and rivers at elevations of 2500 feet and higher, where the water is under 65 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Thunderstorms and rain keep the water temperature lower and lower altitudes, creating favorable weather conditions for trout fishing
  • Smallmouth bass are sensitive to changing weather conditions and water clarity. However, they prefer warmer water temperatures of around 65 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Largemouth bass are very similar to smallmouth bass, but have a warmer feeding window of between 75 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Elijah Saint Blancard is leading a Smallmouth Fly Fishing School in August. Register online for a class on theory & tying on August 13th, followed by a guided float trip to put it into practice on August 16th.
