In recent years, the game of Mahjongg has exploded in popularity in the United States. The Chinese tile game is becoming America’s favorite way to build connection and enjoy friendly competition. Kandy Steiner, a player and instructor, joins the Carolina Outdoors to teach us more about the game, its origins, and its rise in popularity.
What to Know:
- Mahjongg is a 4-player tile game that was developed in the 1800s in Southern China.
- The first tiles sets were sold in the United States by Abercrombie & Fitch in 1920 (a store that was then an outdoor store similar to Jesse Brown’s).
- In 1937, the National Mahjongg League formed to standardize the game’s rules in America.
Kandy is hosting Mahjongg 101 at Jesse Brown’s on Wednesday, February 25th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Click HERE for more information & registration!
