“Most Interesting Man” Kept Us Looking
We thought it was pretty big news when we heard Jonathon Goldsmith was moving on. The now former Most Interesting Man in the World is no longer the pitch man for Dos Equis beer. Sure, it’s not our brand or maybe even yours, but Goldsmith’s nine year run of masculine elegance, grace under pressure, and general awesomeness kept us more than interested.
The ads had some of the best lines, including quotes like, “Superman has pajamas with his logo,” or “He once brought a knife to a gun fight just to even the odds,” and “Sharks have a week dedicated to him.” And no matter the scenario – battlefield, car chase, bear wrestling… The Most Interesting Man in the World would always escape unscathed to deliver that signature sign-off, “Stay thirsty, my friends.”
Dos Equis sent the 77-year old packing for a yet-to-be-named younger model, and neither party went quietly. The Most Interesting Man in the World signed-off via a one-way trip to Mars. No seriously… check it out.
Well, Goldsmith is moving on to more interesting work now. We’ve read he’s putting his name (the real one) behind a fundraising effort for Make-A-Wish in his home state of Vermont. We think that’s pretty cool. Goldsmith could have made a big deal out of his being put out to pasture, or could have fittingly ridden off into the sunset. Instead, as only a most interesting man would do, he’s on to something bigger.
And here’s another: “If opportunity knocks and he’s not home, opportunity waits.”
