It’s no secret that plastic waste is an environmental issue – especially in our oceans. Sea Threads makes its products from 100% recycled ocean plastics sourced specifically from marine and coastal ecosystems. Dylan Cross, its founder, joins the Carolina Outdoors to share more about the company and how it works to improve our oceans.
Segment Highlights:
- Sea Threads began during the COVID-19 pandemic and made face masks when they started! Although it was challenging, founder Dylan Cross was motivated by the company’s mission.
- Dylan focuses not only on sustainable products, but also on apparel that is high quality. He says it’s much cooler when the sustainable apparel also does its job.
- Sea Threads apparel is made from a low maintenance, breathable, wicking material. Sun shirts are sun protective with high UPF protection.
- Products are made and manufactured in central America, and are shipped out of the company’s headquarters in Florida.
- Sea Threads primarily sells its products through retailers rather than direct to consumers. They partner with retailers (like Jesse Brown’s!) to create customizable, branded apparel.
- In 2024, the company grew 600% and continues to promote its mission of recycling ocean plastics.
- Sea Threads works alongside companies and organizations that host community events, cleanups, festivals, and more. They are focused on raising awareness about ocean plastics.
