There are many events happening in Charlotte in 2025. Local outfitter, Jesse Brown’s, has been an integral part of the adventure community for 55 years. The celebration of that May 1st Birthday is just one of many events & celebrations that will be occurring.
Fly Fishing Tutorials, Events, & Instruction in Charlotte
The leader in Charlotte Fly Shops features several events, instructions, & tutorials in 2025. These include the new Streamer Fly Fishing School, monthly Fly-Tying events, the Fly Fishing Film Tour-2025 (F3T-2025), and a return of the Summer Youth Fly Fishing Camp. Jesse Brown’s will also be the host of the April Rocky River Trout Unlimited Meeting featuring author/television host/personality Sam Johnson on April 17th, 2025.
Storyteller Night at Jesse Brown’s
The details are still being finalized but the ever-popular franchise event, Storyteller’s Night at Jesse Brown’s, is scheduled for April 10th, 6-8 p.m. It includes Three, Twenty Minute Stories told by people from the community that have a great adventure or life experience to share. These remarkable people & occurrences will make you laugh, cry, & wonder.
Radio Show & Podcast, Carolina Outdoors
This weekly event includes happenings around Charlotte, the Carolinas, & Globe. Listen has host, Bill Bartee, reports on places to go, things to do, & people that are making outdoor & adventure things happen. The Carolina Outdoors is sponsored by Jesse Brown’s & aired with media partner, WBT Radio. In 2024, the downloads alone went over 83,000. Hit the link to listen.

Intro to Fly Fishing School
This school aids with the knots, rigging, & theory involved in the sport of fly fishing on a Thursday evening. That session is followed by a Guided Day Trip of Wading at Trout Stream to apply the learned techniques. ($275 per person)

Fly Tying Class at Jesse Brown’s
Fly Tying Classes at Jesse Brown’s are small-group exercises that allow new tiers into the sport while helping improve technique & design for expert tiers. Hosted by professional instructors, these evenings include comradery & refreshments. ($25 per person)

Summer Smallmouth Fly Fishing School
This school includes an evening of instruction on theory & tying for the great summer gamefish with a fly rod, the Smallmouth. This class is similar to the Streamer School with a Thursday meeting at Jesse Brown’s Fly Shop followed by a Day Trip to a nearby smallmouth fishery where participants put it all to practice during a guided float trip ($275 per person)

Hike the Loop Trail in SouthPark
Hike Guide Drew Thrasher leads this popular 3-mile walk through the neighborhood of Jesse Brown’s. This beautiful part of Charlotte, NC, is known as the bustling business, shopping, & entertainment district of SouthPark. It also has a rich history that we learn as we walk The Loop. Here we’ll see where the evangelist, Billy Graham & news broadcaster Charles Kuralt’s school building existed, visit an African-American cemetery that is being preserved through a Foundation, & see where the businesses of the past meet present day titans of industry. We will meet at Jesse Brown’s, Sharon Corners.
Bring comfortable walking shoes & water.

Fly Fishing Film Tour 2025 (F3T)
This collection of films covering fly fishing from all-over the United States to all-over the world travels to over 200 venues across America each year. The F3T Charlotte-edition comes to the historic Visulite Theatre on March 21st, 2025. The doors open at 5 p.m. with members from community fly-fishing, conservation, & advocacy groups, along with live music. The films start at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20.

Rocky River Trout Unlimited with Author/Angler/Personality Sam Johnson at Jesse Brown’s
The angling, adventure, & conservation community is invited to this joint effort between Rocky River Trout Unlimited & local fly shop, Jesse Brown’s, to hear author, personality, & speaker, Sam Johnson. Johnson has published two books on fly fishing destinations in the southeast as well as hosting the Wild Bearings program on the YouTube channel, The Country Network. His knowledge and delivery are always entertaining & engaging.

55th Anniversary of Jesse Brown’s
Jesse Brown, the pilot & avid outdoorsman & adventurer, started Jesse Brown’s Backpacking, Canoeing, & Mountaineering, on May 1st, 1970. We celebrate it by inviting you to visit the store in Charlotte or online wherever you are for refreshments, a toast, discounts & prizes. Fifty-five years later, we’re helping people get outside & enjoy nature locally & around the globe.
