Podcast: Play in new window
Jake Rash, Coldwater Research Coordinator for the NC Wildlife Resources Commission, works with the coordination of research and management of North Carolina’s trout resources. He joins the Carolina Outdoors this week to discuss delayed harvest, economic benefits, hatcheries, and more.
What to Know:
- Delayed harvest streams are stocked throughout the year. They are catch & release streams that become open to harvest as the waters warm up.
- The NC Wildlife Resources Commission’s last survey in 2022 reported that trout water generated about $1.4 million to the state’s economy. It also documented 370,000 people fishing for trout in 2022.
- The Setzer State Fish Hatchery outside Brevard is currently undergoing renovation. However, the NCWRC is adjusting to mitigate the impacts of Setzer’s closure.
- Jacob Fork in South Mountain State Park are the closest trout streams to Charlotte. The waters will first be stocked the week of March 2nd-6th for catch and release.
