Coastal Expeditions Foundation – Part One

Founder of the Coastal Expeditions Foundation, mayor of Awendaw, S.C., and conservationist Captain Chris Crolley joins this week’s Carolina Outdoors. Hear him talk about restoring Crab Bank, creating the Foundation, sea turtles, population growth, and more.

Hear from Captain Chris Crolley:

  • Crab Bank, a small island in the Charleston Harbor, was a bird sanctuary for years before it was eroded and disappeared in 2017 during Hurricane Irma. Coastal Expeditions has been working to restore Crab Bank, with birds successfully nesting again beginning in 2022.
  • Cape Romain Wildlife Refuge in Awendaw, S.C. is currently home to over 1500 loggerhead turtle nests.
  • The foundation has partners like the Department of Natural Resources, the National Wildlife Refuge System, land conservation groups, and more.
