On March 5th the Rocky River Trout Unlimited Chapter celebrated with a banquet at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Charlotte. The attendees were treated with silent auction items, good food, chapter business & a speaker.
In fact, it was two speakers. Former president, Tom Adams, introduced the “Outdoor Guys” as they’re endearingly known at 1110 WBT where they host the Carolina Outdoors radio program. Otherwise at Jesse Brown’s they’re known Don (Yager) & Bill (Bartee).
Don started by asking, “Who was at that meeting I attended when I first moved to Charlotte in 1992?” Several raised their hand. Bill stated that he knew exactly when they had last spoken to the chapter. “It was 22 months ago because my wife was expecting at any moment.”
We also learned how Duke the Dog came to Jesse Brown’s through the birth of their child. Bartee’s son was praying for a brother until he made a deal with his dad. “If it’s a girl, then you and I will go and get a boy dog.” Later that night the ten-year old was overheard praying for a “girl, so dad & I can get that boy dog.”
Stories of Knobby the Bigfoot sighted & reported as a suspicious person in Cleveland County, how the “Outdoor Guys” went from Jesse Brown’s to WBT & Don’s story of what a “full-service” guide could be called to do.
Of course, you can listen to the Carolina Outdoors on 1110 WBT by accessing the podcasts via www.jessebrowns.com or ask Don and Bill for a wake-up call, Saturday’s from 5 a.m. to 6 a.m.
