I floated the Watauga river yesterday with good friends Sink Kimmel and Chris Belk. The Doe and other smaller tributaries made the fishing difficult by muddying up the river. Visibility was probably less than a foot but we still brought some fish to the boat. The first fish of the day was a 15in. brown caught on a pats rubberlegs. After that we had to work hard for our fish. There were no hatches and streamers weren’t working so we went down to zebra midges and hares ears. Natural color beadless hares ears seemed to do the trick. We caught a decent number of fish dead drifting and slow striping a large stonefly with the hares ear behind it. I have been averaging 2 floats a week on the Watauga so if you have any questions about the current river conditions in East TN give me a shout. -Wilson
