One Tradition that Thanksgiving brings is not just the kick-off of the shopping season for the holidays. For many it’s actually giving thanks; and celebrating with family & friends. One way to do that is before the turkey and ham are served is to run in a local race.
For years many of us at Jesse Brown’s would run in the http://www.charlotteturkeytrot.com/ but my wife is from Greenville, SC, so these days we head there to be with family. Luckily the past two years I’ve been able to run in Greenville’s new Turkey Trot http://www.treesgreenville.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/OVERALL.pdf . It’s a challenging 8K course in Greenville’s Clemson University Engineering campus. The area is like a large, wooded office park full of the up and down hills of the SC Upcountry.
The race has a fraction of the runners of the Charlotte 8K race which was capped this year at 9,000. The Greenville race had less than 1500 but tons of family & friends to cheer folks along. It was a great run and full of fun. Many wear turkey, pilgrim or Elvis costumes while running the race.
It made me Thankful to be with family and friends while doing some outdoor activities before lunch on a beautiful, Carolina Thanksgiving Day.
Stop by Jesse Brown’s tomorrow, Friday the 23rd for some after-Thanksgiving Shopping. We’re a lot less hectic than the mall & a lot friendlier, too.
